tropical paradise of Canavieiras. With its never ending,
untouched beaches and coconut palms melting with
the horizon. Its huge mangrove landscape,
its pure rivers, rich of all kinds of fish. Navigated by the locals with their hand-made canoas.
This is why we
do a little
publicity, telling people how
cheap you can spend incredible vacations here or even
rent and buy some property. This place is especially suited for people who want to be here during the winter (which does not exist here) or for retired to spend a really long or permanent vacation. There are already some american and european 'pioneers', for example our friendShawn from Australia ( Expert in Big Game Fishing ) also some nice people from America, Switzerland, Neatherlands, Germany (like me), and other countries. Pleasant newcomers are always welcome!
Canavieiras
(Canes)
is a really clean and safe small town with abou 40.000 inhabitants, situated at the south of Bahia`s Atlantic Cacao Coast coast between two big rivers and virgin mangroves. A bridge connects Canavieiras with the isle of Atalaia, about 10 mls. large and with endless sand beaches framed by coconut palms. The nearest beach is at an easy walking distance at less than 10 minutes from the city center.
Most of the "pousadas" (simple little
hotels) are here, as well as the
beach bars and holiday houses of Brazilians
and people from abroad, who like to spend the winter months under the warm, tropical sun. Canavieiras had its time of glory in the 30ies, when the cocoa and the sugarcane were booming and the big farmers - the "Coronels" - were incredibly rich. There was a never ending movement in the harbour, even water airplanes were used here. And the entertainment - just use your imagination! Now this is history.

people are a friendly mixture of indians and europeans. They make a
living from fishing, cultivating cocoa, coconuts,
agriculture, cattle breeding and some domestic tourism. In the interior of Bahia, with its mountains, deep green valleys and rivers, you find enormous plantations, fertile soil and a fantastic vegetation. Also, big parts of the Atlantic Rain Forest remain. |
